Fraud Awareness Week: Do you know the top types of fraud to watch for? (Part 2)
VIA optronics supports 'Fraud Awareness Week 2024' (17-23 November) and promotes awareness regarding fraud risks.
Roland Chochoiek, CEO of VIA optronics commented:
"As we mark Fraud Awareness Week, I'm reminded of how essential it is for each of us to stay vigilant and proactive. Let’s use this week as a reminder that fraud prevention starts with each one of us, taking small but impactful steps every day to safeguard our shared values and reputation."
Here are the most relevant types of fraud to watch for:
- Phishing and Email Scams
Be cautious with unexpected requests for personal or financial information. Look closely at email addresses, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and report any suspicious messages to IT.
- Insider Threats
Sometimes, fraud can come from within the organization. Be mindful of unusual requests for sensitive information or data access and report any suspicious activity.
- Billing and Invoicing Fraud
Make sure all invoices and financial transactions align with established protocols. Fraudulent billing schemes can be costly and difficult to detect without vigilance.
- Social Engineering
Fraudsters often manipulate employees to gain unauthorized access. Always verify identities and be cautious about sharing sensitive information, even if the request seems legitimate.
What Can You Do?
- Stay Informed
Fraud tactics constantly evolve. Regular training, such as cybersecurity updates, can help us stay a step ahead of the latest schemes.
- Report Suspicious Activity
If you see something unusual, say something! Prompt reporting can prevent potential fraud from escalating.
- Follow Security Protocols
Simple actions—like updating passwords regularly, verifying identities, and encrypting sensitive information—are powerful deterrents against fraud.
Let’s keep fraud out of our organizations by staying informed, vigilant, and united.
